Seal Born on Freshwater East Beach

Incredible nature is always around at The Sandcastle

WE HAD AN ADORABLE SEAL PUP BIRTH HERE, ON FRESHWATER EAST BEACH

The pup was born on a clear Monday night in November… and this picture was taken after it had it’s first swim …

Dog walkers and walkers were asked to keep to the left of the wooden bridge and the council has placed Notices in the slipway and beach entrance.

Yesterday, when they went into the water, we feared they had been scared in by dog walkers but this was not the case, as they came out and spent the night in the rocks in the far end. By 7am, they had repositioned themselves near the base of the slipway again.

We were out there watching every day

We observe and photograph from our bank and not from the beach. However, I did have my morning swim as far away from them as I could and they seemed unperturbed!

THEY ARE GIVING US SO MUCH JOY – WE CAN’T TEAR OURSELVES AWAY
And as a P.S.: I have been reproached for posting this wildlife news by people in our village. They have suggested that the post has attracted people to the beach to bother the seal and her pup.
I doubt that any of the idiots who have come here to touch, poke and harass the seal and her pup are any of the viewers of this post.

And if they are, I am not responsible for other people’s behaviour. I also reiterate, that these photos were taken from our home with a zoom lens and not the beach.

RESPECTING NATURE

Meanwhile, the village is doing an excellent job keeping people away from the far side of the beach (slipway), so do please join us in respecting this moving and exciting rite of Nature. And I apologise for the busybodies in our community!!!
